The Jeremy Pruitt era of Tennessee football finally is set to begin.

The Vols will open their 2018 season Saturday afternoon in Charlotte, N.C., against 17th-ranked West Virginia in the Belk College Kickoff at Bank of America Stadium, where their first-year coach will make his head-coaching debut before a national TV audience.

Pruitt, who previously served as defensive coordinator at Florida State, Georgia and Alabama, was hired on Dec. 7 to replace former coach Butch Jones, who was fired in November with two games remaining in his fifth season with the Vols.

After Jones’ firing, Tennessee went on to drop its last two games under interim coach Brady Hoke, putting the finishing touches on a 4-8 season — the first eight-loss campaign in program history.

But with a number of key players back from last season and a fresh start under their new staff, the Vols are looking to turn the page to start a new era.

Here’s a look at how to watch Saturday’s game between the Vols and the Mountaineers.

In addition to being aired on Sports Radio WNML in Knoxville, the Vol Network broadcast of the game can be found on radio affiliates across the state, along with one in North Carolina. The complete list of affiliates can be found HERE.

Tennessee has yet to formally announce a starting quarterback for Saturday’s game, but redshirt sophomore Jarrett Guarantano is widely expected to make the start over fifth-year senior Keller Chryst, a graduate transfer from Stanford.

Guarantano, a former Top247 prospect, started six of the Vols’ final seven games last season. Chryst made a combined 13 starts over the past two years, posting an 11-2 record as a starter.

Pruitt offered few specifics on the progress and performances of Guarantano and Chryst throughout preseason practice. On Wednesday, during his final media availability before Saturday’s game, Pruitt didn’t tip his hand on which quarterback might start against West Virginia.

Several newcomers are expected to receive significant playing time for Tennessee, and a few of them will be in the Vols’ starting lineup.

Redshirt junior offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy, a graduate transfer from Alabama, is in line to start at center, while junior-college transfer Jahmir Johnson could start at left guard. Another junior-college transfer — Dominick Wood-Anderson, one of Johnson’s former Arizona Western College teammates — is likely to be Tennessee’s starting tight end.

On defense, freshman cornerbacks Alontae Taylor and Bryce Thompson were listed as co-starters on the Vols’ official depth chart that was released Monday. Defensive lineman Emmit Gooden, a junior-college transfer, and freshman safety Trevon Flowers also are among the newcomers who are expected to play for Tennessee.
